10 Reasons Why I Would Like To Be a Turtle

10.) They can run fast ~~~ Some land turtles can actually out run a human on level ground.

9.) They can swim and don’t have to worry about looking like a whale in a swimming suit, everyone thinks turtles are cute no matter what they are wearing and they can hold their breath for a LONG time and swim really fast ~~~ The green sea turtle can stay under water for over five hours without coming up for air and when in danger can swim almost 20 miles an hour to escape.

8.) They can have a very long peaceful life ~~~ Age 80 is middle-aged for galapagos tortoises.

7.) It would be so nice to just put a heat lamp above your belly when pregnant so you can have a girl or strap on an ice pack if you want a boy ~~~ When in the eggs, turtles take about 2 months to incubate and their sex is determined by the temperature. Under 29 degrees they become male, over 29 degrees they become female.

6.) They have time in their life to slow down and see the scenery ~~~ The desert tortoise is probably the slowest of all tortoises. It can only move 2 feet each minute.

5.) They don’t have to worry about having enough money to pay for groceries or pay to have a roof over their head, they came with one built in~~~ Some turtles can live for more than a year without food.

4.) They never have to worry about their weight, or how many pounds they have to loose to be the “perfect size.” ~~~ Adult sea turtles can weigh from 150 – 1000 pounds! The leatherback turtle is the largest sea turtle at 6 and a half feet long and weighing up to 1,500 lb.

3.) It’s ok for them to bite stupid people, society rules suggest it’s not good manners for me to ~~~ Many snapping turtles have been known for biting for no reason at all and not letting go.

2.) They have good motherly instincts from the start ~~~ A female turtle laying eggs will dig several empty nests to throw off predators trying to eat the eggs.

1.) Even though they are going to go extinct at least they don’t know about it and don’t have to worry about all of the better and best things they should have been doing instead of just good things, or how many Monday nights they forgot to have FHE, or how many times they forgot to say prayers or read the scriptures, or how they utterly hate visiting teaching, or how they have no desire to have a calling or any and all past sins that might keep them out of heaven and away from their family … they have a stress free life if you ask me ~~~ All 7 types of sea turtle are “threatened” or “endangered.” But we don’t hear them whine about it…

Ah Ash, how many times have I wished for a shell to disappear into? This post totally rocks, I love all the turtle info, and how you related it to your life. You're such a good writer. All I can say is I like you just the way you are.

Turtles rule. "Jellyman, Offspring; offspring, jellyman." So relaxed, because they have no worries.
